Produce Traceability Initiative Ink Jet Printing
The Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) is an industry-led effort to enhance traceability throughout the entire produce supply chain.
PTI requirements are at minimum, the GTIN number from the brand owner and the Lot or Batch # from the company packing the case must be shown in human readable form underneath the barcode. Based on the PTI Action Plan Packing companies will be putting this on all of their cases of produce as of 3rd quarter 2010.
The information needed to be encoded in the GS1-128 barcode for PTI is: The Application Identifier for the GTIN (01), followed by the GTIN itself, then the Application Identifier for the Lot/Batch # (10), followed by the Lot or Batch # itself. An example is provided below.

- Apply with a Markem Imaje print and apply label applicator.
