Thermal Transfer Labels:

Thermal Transfer Labels are excellent for on-demand printing, heavy-duty production printing, and applications that require special label materials for high durability. For example, polyester thermal transfer labels are waterproof, chemical-resistant, and meet UL/CSA requirements for electrical equipment rating plates.

Direct Thermal Labels:

Direct Thermal Labels use chemically treated paper to form a thermal image directly in the paper. Unlike thermal transfer labels, no ribbon is required so loading new labels into the printer is simple and quick. Direct thermal labels do tend to fade over time (6 months to a year), and the fading can be accelerated by exposure to sunlight or heat. For applications with a limited expected label lifetime (shipment labeling, for example), direct thermal labels provide a convenient solution.
